A new year calls for a new approach: in 2023, Somention is converting the quarterly TikTok Top 25  into bi-annual hit lists. And for a good reason, big things are coming! What stands out about the Top 3: Red Bull Netherlands, Netflix Netherlands and Justdiggit? Somention updates you on the most successful Dutch brands on TikTok of the past six months.

 

The research

The TikTok Top 25 is compiled based on independent research by social media agency Somention. The most successful Dutch and international brands with a Dutch account on TikTok have been assessed. The accounts are rated based on the number of interactions and the engagement rate*, where interaction is heaviest weighted. Every half year, the brands that score best on average on these aspects appear in the TikTok Top 25. In February, the list of the most successful brands on TikTok across the entire year of 2022 was announced. Today Somention presents the list for Q1 & Q2 of 2023.

Wide-ranging topics claiming Top 3

Red Bull Netherlands takes a leap, climbing 4 ranks up to secure first place. With a whopping increase of over 50% in followers, they showcase that adrenaline-fueled sports have a space on TikTok. Looking further in the list, Netflix Netherlands forges ahead and claims the runner-up spot, highlighting that a well-balanced blend of trailers, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and intriguing movie facts is precisely what resonates with the audience’s preferences. A fresh face in the top 10, occupying the impressive 3rd place, is Justdiggit. This grassroots organization takes on the monumental challenge of combating global warming through re-greening Africa. Their presence underlines the significance of addressing crucial global issues on TikTok.

Big jumps and taboo themes

New on our list is Action Netherlands (25), diving right in and showcasing their ability to effortlessly ride the wave of various trends using their products. In a jaw-dropping leap of 27 spots, EasyToys rockets to the 17th position. Here, the focus isn’t solely on product promotion, but rather on enlightening conversations centered around sexuality. Demonstrating the significance of addressing taboo subjects on TikTok.

Explanation of study 

In this independent research, a number of factors were taken into consideration when selecting the brand accounts. To obtain a reliable engagement rate, only accounts with more than 1,000 followers were included. Accounts also need to have posted a minimum of 12 posts in the previous half year. Excluded are (news) platforms, broadcasters, programmes, agencies and sports clubs.

*Engagement rate is the number of likes, comments, and shares divided by the number of views, multiplied by 100%.
