A new year calls for a new approach: in 2023, Somention is converting the quarterly TikTok Top 25 into bi-annual hit lists. And for a good reason, big things are coming! What stands out about the Top 3: Red Bull Belgium, Tomorrowland and Plopsa? Somention updates you on the most successful Belgian brands on TikTok of the past six months.
The research
The TikTok Top 25 is compiled based on independent research by social media agency Somention. The most successful Belgian and international brands with a Belgian account on TikTok were assessed. The accounts are evaluated based on the number of followers and the engagement rate*, where interaction is heaviest weighted. Every half year, the brands that scored best on average on these aspects are listed in the TikTok Top 25. In February, the list of the most successful brands on TikTok across the entire year of 2022 was announced. Today Somention presents the list for Q1 & Q2 of 2023.
Never change a winning team
The top 3 spots in the Belgian TikTok ranking are still dominated by the same trio of brands. Red Bull Belgium is still riding high in the number one spot, and it’s no accident. They’ve gone and doubled their followers in just six months. Tomorrowland steps up from their third place and claims the runner up title adding almost a million followers to their already existing 1.5 million fans, proving how unique the Tomorrowland experience is, also on TikTok. The account claiming the third spot is Plopsa, showcasing that even an account in the native Flemish language can stand tall among the heavyweights, especially when the content brings an experience to the table.
TikTok debuts
We have a noteworthy 5 accounts that made their TikTok debuts within the first half of 2023 and managed to make it on to our TikTok Top 25 list: O’Tacos Belgique (4), Axess Schaerbeek (7), Pukkelpop (11), Proximus (13) and Hyundai Belgium (21).
Quality over quantity? Sony Pictures Belgium shows that to the TikTok audience quantity is equally as important as quality. Sony Pictures Belgium jumps from place 30 to place 18, by simply posting more.
On Instagram, festivals have been taking over the Top 100 list for a while already. Now, more and more festivals are making it on the Belgium TikTok list as well. Do TikTok users just love Belgian festivals as much as the Instagram community does?

Explanation of study
In this independent research, a number of factors were taken into consideration when selecting the brand accounts. To obtain a reliable engagement rate, only accounts with more than 1,000 followers were included. Accounts also need to have posted a minimum of 12 posts in the previous half year. Excluded are (news) platforms, broadcasters, programmes, agencies and sports clubs.
*Engagement rate is the number of likes, comments, and shares divided by the number of views, multiplied by 100%.
