On Thursday, September 26th, Het Grote Trend College took place on the Rooftop of the Groothandelsgebouw in Rotterdam. Together with 150 marketers, we explored the future of social media. In case you missed it, here’s a recap of our predictions.
Dare to be bold
Bold social advertising is all about daring, eye-catching campaigns that push boundaries and grab attention immediately. A great example of this is the brand Liquid Death. With their sharp, sometimes provocative humour and anti-establishment attitude, they’ve transformed a simple water brand into a cult phenomenon in just four years. By using social media cleverly and not being afraid to address controversial themes, Liquid Death has created an extremely powerful brand identity.
Their epic content creates impact, proving that bold marketing pays off in the crowded world of social advertising. If you want your brand to stand out amongst the masses of content, you’ll need to take things a step further than ever before. Make sure you stand out, keep entertaining, create a positive feeling, and/or spark your audience’s interest by teaching them something new.
Find your community
‘Social niches’ are specific, small online communities that share common interests and values. Finding your target audience often starts by diving deep into these communities. Instead of trying to reach everyone, focus on a niche where your brand truly resonates. Scroll through your comments, check Reddit, and fish out the gems that your audience responds to well.
By actively participating in conversations within these groups, you’ll learn the unique needs of your target audience. This helps you build authentic connections and create content that aligns with what your community values, leading in turn to stronger brand loyalty and engagement.
It’s therefore wise to critically evaluate your audience and dare to focus on the social niches where your brand truly shines. Your followers and an even larger audience will remain engaged because good social content will, through shares and likes also reach beyond niche circles.
Make your brand human
Under hashtags like #humanbeinghumans, #peoplebeingpeople, and #humancore on TikTok, you’ll find videos of ‘real’ people in their daily lives. Humancore is a trend that embraces the everyday, human side of life, with a focus on authenticity, simplicity, and rawness. It showcases the beauty of ordinary moments and stands for ‘realness.’ This movement is a response to the filtered, perfect images on social media, and we see a shift towards photo dumps, simple TikToks, and unfiltered selfies. In the age of AI, where everything is becoming more fabricated, the demand for authenticity is growing. User-generated content (UGC), something we offer through Influentials, aligns with and enhances this trend by emphasizing the power of real stories and spontaneous moments.
