Just launched: the very first Belgian Instagram Top 100 for brands

Somention presents the Belgian Instagram Top 100 for brands. Two years ago, the social media agency already launched the Instagram Top 100 for Dutch brands. Now, for the first time, there is also a list of the most popular Belgian brand accounts on Instagram. 


The Instagram Top 100 is compiled based on independent research by social media agency Somention. The most successful Belgian and international brands with a Belgian account on Instagram are rated based on the number of followers, likes, comments and engagement rate*. Every quarter, the brands that score best on average on all these points appear in the Instagram Top 100. At the end of the year, the list of the most successful brands on Instagram over the entire year 2022 will be announced. See the full list for Q1 later in this article. 

Festival take-over

The brand that can call itself the very first number 1 in the Belgian list is Graspop Metal Meeting. With great festival photos, this biggest Belgian metal festival knows how to steal the hearts of metal fans. It appears that more festival accounts are doing extremely well. There are in fact seven festivals listed in the Instagram Top 100. In second place is Rock Werchter, a well-known weekend festival in Belgium. Pukkelpop and Rampage Belgium are also in the top 10. You can clearly see the love for music in Belgium! Or did they just hit the right chord with their content?

Besides all the festivals, there are of course other successful Belgian brands on Instagram. The Walibi amusement park took the number 3 position. Posts of exciting attractions do very well on their Instagram page. In 4th place is the account of Pairidaiza, also voted the best zoo in Europe. Explanation of study

In this independent research, a number of things were taken into account when selecting the brand accounts. To obtain a reliable engagement rate, only accounts with more than 5,000 followers were included. Excluded are (news) platforms, broadcasters, programmes, agencies and sports clubs. In addition, accounts with an 18+ setting (such as those of some alcoholic beverages and lotteries) are excluded due to Instagram’s settings. 

*Engagement rate is calculated as follows: the number of comments and likes per post divided by the number of followers.
