Kliemannsland best performing brand in German Instagram Top 100

Since this year, the best-performing German brands on Instagram have been analyzed each quarter. Which brands were most successful on the platform in the second quarter? And what has changed since the first 3 months of this year? Read on and find out who made the German Instagram Top 100.


The Instagram Top 100 is compiled based on independent research by social media agency Somention. The most successful German and international brands with a German account on Instagram are rated based on the number of followers, likes, comments and engagement rate*. Every quarter, the brands that score best on average on all these points appear in the Instagram Top 100. At the end of the year, the list of the most successful brands on Instagram over 2022 will be announced. See the full list for Q2 later in this article.

1-Second-Wow

Let’s start with the top 3 in the ranking, here we go! The number 3 spot in this second quarter goes to Otto, one of the most successful e-commerce companies in Europe. They’re also incredibly creative when it comes to videos, photos and design, and it turns out we’re not the only ones who think so! Number 2 this quarter is high-performance automotive aftermarket tuning company Brabus. Their content really looks like 1-Second-Wow Luxury and it is definitely worth the attention! At the top of the list is Kliemannsland, a creative project on an old farm that has been transformed into a hub for creatives. They share mostly photos, but funny reels are not uncommon for them either.  

When analysing the complete list of The German Instagram Top 100 for brands, so many of them achieved impressive results! But there is at least one brand that we have to name separately. This account was placed at number 4 in the second quarter, despite not even being in the list in the previous quarter. We are talking about Eurowings, the low-cost airline from Düsseldorf. But as we all know, times are tough for airports and airlines. So while engagements are running high, this does not necessarily mean that there is always positive sentiment on the account…

Explanation of study

In this independent research, a number of things were taken into account when selecting the brand accounts. To obtain a reliable engagement rate, only accounts with more than 10,000 followers were included. Excluded are (news) platforms, broadcasters, programmes, agencies and sports clubs. In addition, accounts with an 18+ setting (such as those of some alcoholic beverages and lotteries) are excluded due to Instagram’s settings. 

*Engagement rate is calculated as follows: the number of comments and likes per post divided by the number of followers.
