# Cookie statement

A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. Somention B.V. uses only a few on somention.com, and none to follow you for advertising. Below is exactly which ones, what for and for how long.

## Functional cookies (always)

These cookies are needed to make the site work the way you set it. They need no consent.

- somention-consent (Somention): remembers whether you allowed or declined statistics cookies. Kept for 6 months.
- NEXT_LOCALE (Somention): remembers your language, Dutch or English. Kept for 1 year.

Your browser also remembers within one tab (sessionStorage, not a cookie) that you have already seen the intro animation, so it does not replay on every page. That is gone as soon as you close the tab.

## Statistics cookies (only with your consent)

With Google Analytics 4 we see how many people visit the site and which pages they view. Google sets these cookies only after you click “Allow” in the notice. IP addresses are anonymised and the advertising features of Google Analytics are off.

- _ga (Google): tells visitors apart. Kept for 2 years.
- _ga_GTVG672GFP (Google): keeps the session state. Kept for 2 years.

Google also processes this data outside the EU. Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and we have accepted the Google Analytics data processing terms. How Google handles data is described at policies.google.com/privacy.

## Measuring without cookies

For visitor numbers we also use Ahrefs Web Analytics. That measurement sets no cookies and keeps no data that can be traced back to you, so it needs no consent.

## No advertising or social media cookies

We set no cookies from advertising networks or social media platforms. The videos on this site are served by us, not through YouTube or Instagram. Links to our social channels open those platforms in a new tab, where their own cookie rules apply.

## Changing your choice

Withdrawing your choice is as easy as giving it: the button below clears it and the notice appears again right away. If you choose “No thanks”, Google Analytics is switched off. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site keeps working.
